What Is Love?

The meaning of the word LOVE differs with each defining source. What is LOVE to you; to me; to the hot dog vendor on the corner, or to the girl you hit on at the club Friday night? There is no solid characterization that could bring satisfaction to all since LOVE is defined by observed actions, and these observations differ from person to person.

TELEVISION offers a unique insight into courtship, and often one’s understanding of what LOVE is (or isn’t) may be strongly influenced by programs they view. Over the next few weeks, I will dig deep into the connection between Courtship & Television and the impact it has on relationships in today’s society.

The picture you chose is definitely a good example of "Love" being portrayed by a television show.

It seems like a lot of us, the students, are writing about courtship and television. Just know that, and look at others blogs to see how they are going and if you have any ideas or points to make for them.

I think it would be interesting to contrast and compare the way in which we are intrigued by shows full of romance but also by such 'reality' shows as Divorce Court.

This is a very good way to look at things; how the meaning of love is different to everyone. Almost like beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I also think that tv does have a huge impact on how viewers think of love and how love SHOULD be. An interesting topic could be how different people try to create tv love in their own lives.

This is a very legit topic to discuss with courtship, because it is so true that every show on tv offers a different perspective on love. The word itself is dictated in so many varying ways in the real world, and looking at the way it is portrayed on television is really interesting.

I'm interested to see where you go with this! I've been mentioning a lot to a lot of people doing courtship and TV to research why sitcoms have been on the decline lately and reality tv is still on the rise. What, regarding courtship, has changed about society lately?

Someone told me today that they believed that there was no such thing as falling in love...love is a choice. there was more explanation after that, but i'm interested in reading how other people define love

TV is so predominant in out society. Do you think people turn to tv for definitions of love? and do you think this is accurate?

I think there's a lot of places you can take this topic and that the definition of love is a rich start.

I think that's a good question to pursue, wouldn't mind seeing you get a bit more specific on it though.
